You love being a parent, but you don't always like your children. You feel overwhelmed by the mental load, tired of having every one of your buttons pushed and have forgotten who you are in amongst the daily battles and obligations. If this sounds like you, you're not alone and it doesn't have to stay like this. I can support you to find ways to feel calmer and more resilient so you can get back to enjoying your family and reconnect with yourself.
About me and my practice
I opened my private practice in 2022 after several years providing counselling within the charity sector to parents and carers of autistic children. I know how challenging parental relationships can be whether you are the parent or the child, its a core relationship that affects our whole lives.
If you struggle with low self-esteem, anxiety, difficulty trusting in others ability to care for you or regularly find ;yourself in the position of trying to keep the peace; I can support you to build your confidence, overcome anxiety and build lasting safe relationships with the people that matter most.
AS an integrative-relational counsellor I mix together lots of different types of therapy to adapt the way I work around you as a unique person with a unique story. I have a level 5 diploma in couples and relationship therapy and a BA Hons in integrative-relational counselling. I love helping people to build strong relationships with themselves and the people around them and I would love the opportunity to support you with your goals.
I offer sessions online via Zoom and WhatsApp video call as well as in person in Godalming surrey.
Experience
I have worked with adults 18+ to navigate a wide range of difficulties such as parenting issues, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and loss/grief.
I also work with couples online and in person to overcome challenges such as healing from betrayal and brakes in trust, managing conflict and communication issues, and separating amicably to co-parent effectively.
Within the charity sector I have counselled parents and carers of autistic children to navigate new diagnosis, anxiety about the future, experiences of isolation and social judgement and learning to parent in a way that is supportive of your autistic child(ren).

Initial Consultation
Our first session is about us getting to know each other and starting to lay the foundations for our work together. We'll have a few house keeping things to talk through, but other than that the session is for you to use however you need.
Everyone needs something slightly different from the first session, whether you've been desperate to get things of your chest, or would like to discuss a plan of action I will follow your lead. Sometimes you might need a little guidance or support at the beginning and I can offer this too.
If you'd like you can read more about the first session with me on my blog: https://kmccounselling.co.uk/2024/10/31/the-adventure-begins-what-is-the-first-session-like/
